In November 2010, the owners of Solar Energy World purchased a building in Elkridge, Maryland. Since the building was previously an automotive warehouse, remodeling was needed for a comfortable and suitable workspace. Extensive improvements included replacing old, drafty windows with new Energy Star® rated windows, adding insulation, and installing energy efficient lighting with “smart” switch controls.
Solar Energy World is in the process of implementing further energy efficient upgrades to meet the requirements for Energy Star® rating, LEED certification, and the Maryland Green Registry.
In April 2011, Solar Energy World became an ENERGY STAR® partner, taking the first step toward their building rating program.
On Earth Day, April 22, 2011, Solar Energy World installed a solar energy system on the Elkridge building. The system is approximately 48kW in size, providing 52,500 kWh, which is an equivalent to greenhouse gas emissions avoided by recycling 12 tons waste instead of sending it to the landfill.
